Inspired by giants of the rock and metal genre such as Ozzy Osbourne, Judas Priest and Iron Maiden, Nottingham based singer/guitarist, Maxwell Jeffries, started writing songs for his solo project, Underking, in the Spring of 2019.
Underking's debut albums: "Ghosts of the Past" and "Amongst the Dead", released to local critical acclaim on April 3rd 2020, with the latter featuring Arizona-native Dustin Burmeister on screamed vocals. The duality of these records saw Underking incorporate a wider array of influences - including acts such as Megadeth, Kvelertak and Pantera.
"The Throne", released in June 2020, saw Underking call on more of the NWOBHM style - leading to an unapologetic nod to his heroes with a catchy guitar riff and a tight, memorable hook.

Following on from this success, "The Mask" continued in the same manner, emulating the classic sound of Max's metal idols.
The full force of Underking's diverse influences are present in their sound with songs ranging from hard rock riff-fests to hardcore inspired sledgehammers.
Today they announce a release of new single "Dragon of the West" their most heartfelt song to date. A rock ballad inspired by the events of series Avatar: The Last Airbender and features a deeper foray into orchestral elements than Max has explored before. The track sees Underking explore influences varying from Meat Loaf to Judas Priest’s more mellow cuts! The song features the production talents of Stephen Waltl this time round, leading to one of the project’s biggest sound mixes so far!
It's coming out on the 18th September 2020 and it's definitely worth having a listen!
